Overview
ATSS has a client located in Bay Minette, AL looking for a Electrical Product Development Engineer.
As a Senior Electrical Product Development Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to lead the design of electrical or electronic design, software and/or control system development of new products, from conception, into feasibility and through launch, as well as the development of tests (both manual and automated), the implementation of product improvements, cost reductions, and product issue resolution efforts for existing product lines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Marketing and other Engineering support areas to provide input and direction for new product concepts based upon functional requirements provided by sales and marketing as well as personal innovation.
Translate customer functional requirements into engineering design requirements.
Brainstorm innovative solutions to common customer problems as part of a team.
Coordinate and document the collection new product ideas and incorporate and organize this information into a written, schematic electronic diagram or other formal documentation method mean to capture and document these ideas
Develop proof of concept devices utilizing breadboards, development boards and sensors, preliminary software, or other electronic samples, components, and assemblies in order to take functional and design concepts and visualize them through working samples or prototypes
Translate electronic concepts into schematics, control systems, and hardware utilizing appropriate software.
Prepare and approve product design and test plans, manage design reviews and recommend adequate changes to the approved prototypes before actual role out of new products
Evaluate existing designs for performance and/or manufacturing enhancements, component cost reduction and improved product reliability and manufacturability.
Initiate, process and release ECO’s including BOM, specifications and item maintenance updates.
Develop and author test protocols, develop automated tests using LabVIEW, conduct testing for hardware/software design verification and compile validation reports
Provide direction and Regulatory insight to help prepare documentation for 510(k) approvals.
Review Design History File (DHF) to ensure completion for products, including risk analysis and project plans
Communicate and train QA, engineering and manufacturing regarding new and revised documentation.
Initiate solutions to quality related problems via the change control procedure
Troubleshoot manufacturing issues as required
Education and/or Experience:
Minimum four-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
Eight to twelve years’ experience in a regulated, stage gate product development process
Proven experience designing products within a manufacturing environment with project leadership responsibility
Strong knowledge of electric assembly parts, industrial motors, 3ph motors, batteries, control boards, software development/validation, control systems, and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth protocol
Proven experience with test/experiment design, lab test automation, verification/ validation of designs and/or statistical analysis of results utilizing Labview or other programs
Proven experience with system design/integration with processors, sensor (industrial, medical, etc.) and mechanical systems such as 3phase motor control and VFD
Working knowledge of AWS DynamoDB, data analysis and/or processing and/or machine learning
Experience within an FDA registered facility or ISO 9000/9001 or knowledge of stage gate product development processes
Demonstrated analog design experience with sensors, op-amps, signal conditioning, power electronics and switching
Working knowledge of internet connected (iot) devices and best practices. Connectivity options (wifi, cellular, etc.) device and data security, ota updates, etc…
Knowledge of sensor selection for monitoring mechanical devices. Testing, validation, calibration, and stability of sensors over time.
Knowledge of electrical and medical device regulations, 60601, ISO13485, MDSAP (FDA and Health Canada), EU MDD, and IEC 62304.
